Klaus Frahm’s “The fourth wall”

Klaus Frahm’s “The fourth wall”

We love these amazing images by Hamburg-based architectural photographer Klaus Frahm of the view from the back of the stage of some of Europe’s most impressive opera houses, concert halls and theatres.

In this series, the ‘fourth wall’ – a term which describes the viewport the audience has on the action taking place ‘inside the box’ formed by the proscenium stage – is reversed and the invisible audience becomes the subject of the viewer’s gaze.

We took great delight in the contrast between the presentation of the theatre with its lush atmosphere and the behind-the-scenes perspective of all the stark modern tech required to put on a show.

Have you performed on any of these stages? If so, tell us about it in the comments at the bottom of the page.
