Scots claim him as a national treasure but his appeal is truly universal. Once again, his 'Immortal Memory' will be toasted in Burns' Suppers all over the world. If you're thinking of having one, we thought we'd help you out with some ideas for the big night, and a free accompaniment for Auld Lang Syne, and a special offer on our brand new collection of Burns Songs accompaniments. Burns Supper traditions Burns' Suppers are very happy occasions where Burns' fans get a chance to let their hair down and enjoy long established traditions like 'Piping in The Haggis' before reading aloud the marvellous, funny mock-heroic poem, Ode to a Haggis, to celebrate this most basic of Scottish dinners. The haggis, accompanied by boiled mashed potatoes and boiled mashed turnips - 'neeps' ('Swedes' or rutabaga) is dished up swiftly and enjoyed by all (well, consumed anyway!) Favourite Burns' songs like 'My Love is Like A Red Red Rose' or Ca' the Yowes' are sung and other wonderful poems like 'Tam O'Shanter' or 'To A Mouse' are recited before the party-goers listen to the toasts and responses. Then, the more energetic in the company may join in some and traditional Scottish dancing - exciting reels, slightly calmer strathspeys and maybe even a 'Dashing White Sergeant'. Tartan dress and 'a wee dram' are nice but not compulsory additions to the evening which finally draws to a close with everyone singing Burns universal anthem, 'Auld Lang Syne' (available for free download from Your Accompanist).
