1914 saw the start of the human tragedy that was the First World War. Citizens of Europe, America, Australia, New Zealand, India and British Commonwealth territories were embroiled in a conflict which directly or indirectly claimed the lives of millions. Sadly it was not the 'war to end all wars'.
